Competition winners

It has taken us a long time, but we have finally chosen the two winners of the story competition from the last writers' workshop. Congratulations to Alicia for your story "The Stolen Book", and to Michael who is runner up. Any day now, when the monkeys wake up and get back to work, we will post your stories for everyone to read. Your book prizes are waiting for you to collect.

Crime Busters workshop

We have just had the most fantastic crime solving workshop at the library. Twenty young detectives in four teams worked together to solve the most heinous crime in the library - the theft of the Great Book of All Answers from the locked cabinet of precious items. Following clues, checking fingerprints and footprints, and interviewing suspects, the group managed to crack the crime and apprehend the criminal. Now, the task is to write a story (in 500 words or fewer) based on the workshop experience. The best will be published here, and one winner will receive a book prize. Thank you to library staff, and especially to Cynthia Rohner, for making this workshop such a success.

Write your own adventure

Our second writing workshop for kids was based on the Choose Your Own Adventure books. Using the computers in the library, our twelve writers created individual stories with multiple plot lines. Powerpoint is a great program for doing this, allowing links from one page to another. Each young writer will get a disc containing their own stories so that more work can be done on them.
Watch this space for news of the future writers' group activities.
Meanwhile - keep on writing!

Pat Flynn writing workshop

On January 17th 2007, Noosa Library will host a writing workshop with author Pat Flynn as the tutor. Pat is well know to us for his series of books about a skateboard mad teenager, Alex Jackson. He also won a Children's Book Council Award for his recent book "To the Light". At our workshop, young writers can learn from Pat some of the insights to getting your good story ideas into shape as a good story. After the workshop, you can join this blog and share your story writing progress with your fellow young writers.
